I'M BUSY !!!

I believe the words “I’m busy” are some of the most over used words today in the business world.
I am in the business world and I hear these words used multiple times every day from colleagues, co-workers, managers, etc.... Most everyone in today’s world are busy and have too much on their plates. I get it! (We all have busy lives) However, in many cases we get so use to saying “I’m busy” as a cop out and it hurts our character over time.

On occasion, I have people tell me that they will meet with me at a certain time or call me and then never follow through, and when I talk to them later they don’t say, I’m sorry for standing you up, but instead they say “I got busy” -implying that their stuff is more important than keeping their word or their time is more important than my time.
This is a huge character issue and flaw in some.

Please, don’t misunderstand me, my intention is not to be more righteous or judge as we all have areas in our lives to “tweak” but I have found that this is an epidemic among most business people, and I am old fashion I guess, and believe that we should be a person of our word. I am not suggesting that on rare occasions something can come up unexpected and you may have to cancel. I am just saying don’t get caught in the trap of saying “I’m busy” as a cop out. Don’t be like everyone else. If you are truly too busy to the point that your word is no good because you have over committed than you may need to step back and evaluate what is important to you.

I will not write a blog on what should be YOUR priorities because frankly that is none of my business. Just the same, it is none of your business what I make my priorities. All I am suggesting is that you should know what your priorities are and not over commit to the point that it hurts your character. Be a person of character. Be a person of Integrity. Do what you say you will do and if there is some rare reason you cannot – have the integrity and character to apologize to the person for not being able to keep your commitment.

Treat BUSY as a four letter word!
